A national platform
for better housing delivery.
National Platform. Local Outcomes.
The National Housing Platform brings governments and Australian industry together to innovate and support the delivery of quality housing at scale.
Led by Building 4.0 and supported by the Australian Government, the Platform is developing a common national system that can be applied to different housing priorities, sites, climates and communities across Australia.
A national platform. Local flexibility. Better housing delivery.
What is the National Housing Platform?
A more coordinated way to deliver housing.
Australia needs more homes, but delivering them is not only a question of funding or land. Housing delivery is constrained by rising costs, workforce pressures, fragmented supply chains and a system in which designs, procurement, suppliers and project teams are often assembled again and again for each project.
The National Housing Platform is designed to address this delivery challenge. It aims to bring together technical systems, housing designs, regulatory pathways, supply chains, skills, training, data and implementation capability within a coordinated national approach. Rather than replacing existing housing programs, it provides shared capability that states and territories can apply to their own priorities and circumstances. The Platform is in development. We are working towards implementation through product development, jurisdictional designs, physical prototypes, demonstrators and practical projects.
Data provided from implementation will be used to test, measure and improve the approach over time.
One national platform. Different local outcomes.
The Platform does not prescribe one house, one supplier or one way of building; rather, it is an enabling system. States and territories retain responsibility for their housing priorities, programs, sites, procurement decisions and local outcomes. The Platform provides common systems and capability that can be adapted to different locations, climates, communities and housing needs.
Coordinated nationally. Implemented locally.

What is System 600?
Standard parts, not standard designs.
System 600 is a kit-of-parts that helps compatible building products work together. It is one enabling technical system within the broader National Housing Platform.
System 600 uses coordinated dimensions and common interfaces to help selected building components fit and work together.
The principle is standard parts, not standard designs. Architects and project teams retain flexibility to respond to different sites, climates and communities, while suppliers and manufacturers have clear guidance for what parts to make and to what standards.
Building 4.0’s Mascot facility showcases a full-scale, two-bedroom demonstrator showing aspects of this approach. Developed with Homes NSW, it is a NSW-specific demonstration, not a finished commercial product or a standard design for every state and territory.
Standard parts, not standard designs.

A system designed for an Australian supply ecosystem
System 600 is intended to support a distributed supply chain, with multiple manufacturers able to provide compatible products within a common framework.
That creates a pathway to use and grow Australian manufacturing capability while giving designers, manufacturers, suppliers, builders and governments a more coordinated way to work together.
Get involved.
Building the Platform together.
The National Housing Platform is being developed with governments, industry, research organisations, designers, manufacturers, suppliers, builders and other delivery partners. As the Platform develops, Building 4.0 is coordinating a national industry ecosystem to support product development, manufacturing, implementation, training and housing delivery. The proposed supplier pathway envisages industry participants progressing from initial interest through assessment, product development, prototyping and verification.
For Industry
Are you a manufacturer, supplier, designer, builder, technology provider or other organisation interested in contributing to the National Housing Platform?
Registering your interest does not constitute a procurement process or guarantee future work. It helps the National Housing Platform understand capability across the Australian housing and manufacturing ecosystem.
